Palm Springs: golf, hikes and desert storms

Steven and I were so stoked to spend a few days in Palm Springs! We seemed to have timed it perfectly with a cold snap and snow in the forecast for Vancouver – we were headed for golf and sunshine!

Palm Springs

Wednesday – we took the day off work and flew to Palm Springs in the morning. After arriving we hit the first patio we could find and crushed some amazing Mexican food!!

Thursday – I worked remotely from the backyard while Steven went to the driving range and explored Palm Springs. After work, we went on a beautiful hike – we barely saw anyone on the trail. It was crazy to look down on Palm Springs and really take in how many golf courses there are! It’s kind of insane. We hiked along the ridge until dusk. I was disappointed we didn’t see any big horned sheep but we’ll survive..

My temporary office – not bad!!

Friday – another remote workday but I had our “night golf” to look forward to. Steven had found a golf course that’s lit up at night so we could play a later tee time. We’d never played a course like this before and were really excited to check it out and hopefully not lose too many balls. The course ended up being so much fun – we started in the heat of the sun, golfed through a beautiful sunset and into the dark. We finished the night with a bougie dinner out, once again on a patio!

She sunk it!!!

Saturday – we golfed at Escena Golf Club which I was excited about but also nervous because I’m really not a great golfer and didn’t want to be paired with some snobby people who take golf too seriously BUT we were paired with a lovely couple our age who were a similar skill level. The guys played a great game despite the insane wind and I had some pretty good shots at times LOL. The wind was wild, it felt like we were playing in a sandstorm but we didn’t let that stop us. After a great day on the course we drove out to Yucca Valley where we checked into a different Airbnb out in the desert!

Sand storm

Sunday – I woke up early to a stunning sunrise and had my coffee in the hot tub. This was definitely one of the coolest Airbnb’s we’ve ever stayed in – such a vibe. Steven wasn’t feeling great so we didn’t go into Joshua Tree National Park but we did manage to go for a little hike and explore. It just gives us another excuse to keep an eye on seat sales and come back!

It was super chilly in the desert that day!

Monday – I had another remote work day so we didn’t get up to too much. After one last hot tub dip we packed up and flew back to Vancouver that night.

We had a really great time, despite Steven getting the flu at the end of the trip. It was such a short and easy flight, and bringing our clubs down was definitely the right call. We’ll be back to golf and hike more!
